European Week of Regions and Cities: workshop
Supporting innovative actions to underpin reforms and organisational change
Social innovations are important motors for the Lisbon strategy. They facilitate the modernisation of the economy, and underpin and stimulate the reform of employment and social inclusion policies and actions.
This workshop brings together the insights, lessons and good practice of Member States and regions in programming and implementing the new ESF programmes by incorporating the support of innovative actions. Its primary aim is to assist – in a very practical way – representatives from Member States and regions who have been tasked with implementing the new ESF programmes 2007-2013. It serves to help them answer some of the questions that they are likely to be faced with at the start of the implementation process, such as:
• What does innovation actually mean within the context of an ESF programme?
• What benefits can innovative actions offer, both strategically and operationally?
• What are the key considerations to take account of before embarking on the support of innovations, in particular regarding effective ways for:
− Linking themes for innovation to problems and needs addressed in the programme, and in the Lisbon reform agenda
− Ensuring user orientation
− Validation of innovative results
− Establishing sound mainstreaming mechanisms
